The Ryan Alumni Scholarships are awarded yearly to the college-bound
Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the graduating class. Scholarship recipients for 2009 were: Cherish Sheffield, Valedictorian, and
Dillon Martin, Salutatorian.
Scholarship recipients for 2010 were Colby Clay Barrett, Valedictorian, and Taylor Glen Johnson, Salutatorian.
Donataions to the fund during the last few years have been very limited,
allowing us to award only $200 to the valedictorian and $150 to the
salutatorian. But hopefully that has changed for good! THANKS to
everyone who contributed in 2009 we have increased the awards to $750 and $500
respectively for the 2010 awards. The 2011 awards will be evaluated and
hopefully increased again if fund-raising efforts are successful.
Donations in 2009 totaled $3,652, three times the total raisesd for the last 4
years combined! In 2009, the Class of 1960 contributed the most money, and
the Class of 1964 had the most contributors.
We do not know yet how successful our fund-raising will be in 2010.
Historically we receive no donations in non-reunion years. We are hoping
to change that. We are requesting pledges for annual donations so we will
know what income there will be into the account. When we know that the
scholarship awards can be sustained at a higher level, we will increase those
awards incrementally.
