President Barbara Gillum presided.  She discussed the need to start planning for the reunion this September.  She will appoint chairpersons to head committees of their choosing.  She proposed appointments as follows: 

Entertainment:  Dana Major

Breakfast:  Carolyn Howard

Friday night activities:  Royse Reagan

Ticket sales/dues/donations:  Angela Sullivan

School set-up/door prizes etc: Pernell Williams

Saturday mid-day banquet:  Yet to be assigned.

 

 

Carolyn Howard thought there should be a brief banquet speaker along with entertainment, recognition of oldest graduate & one traveling the farthest. Carolyn would also like to see a change in table configuration at the school so that the speaker and emcee could have a centralized location to facilitate hearing and microphone use.  Reading of the Memorial List was briefly discussed.  Linda Cain thought the ringing of a bell to commemorate teach person as their name was read was a simple but touching tribute.  This may be incorporated into our program.   Reading of the Memorial List and bell ringing could be shared by Sheila Underwood and Angela Sullivan if it is acceptable to them.

 

 

ACTION TAKEN:  The Articles of Association and the Bylaws of the Association were signed.  Barbara Gillum proposed that at some point the bylaws should be amended to include some provision of auditing of financial records.

 

ACTION TAKEN:  The IRS Form 1023 application for non-profit tax-exempt status was reviewed with the group by Loretta Corley.  The application was signed by President Barbara Gillum.  Loretta will submit the application to the IRS along with the user fee of $400.  Loretta will retain a copy for Association files and will provide a copy for President Barbara Gilllum's files.

 

RESOLUTION PASSED:  Be it resolved that the funds (both accounts at First State Bank of Ryan)of the former Ryan Alumni Association be transferred to the newly unincorporated Ryan Alumni Association, EIN 90-0633436. 

 

NEXT MEEETING:  The date of the next meeting with be April 25th, 2011, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ryan Senior and Community Center.
