President Barbara Gillum called the meeting to order. The purpose of the
meeting was to discuss final arrangements for reunion weekend activities.
Barbara began the discussion by talking about the reading of the Memorial List.
Sheilah Underwood and Angela Sullivan will read. The ringing of a bell
after each name was dispensed with.
Angela reported that Pernell has the gift/awards for those traveling the
farthest, oldest and youngest graduate present.
Barbara asked Linda Kafer Cain about the entertainment for the banquet. She
reported that Caleb Good will play the piano during the meal. Janey Cephus Newton will
perform 2 songs, and a group of former graduates, The Original Us,
will perform a couple of numbers. Linda has been checking with school
officials regarding the sound system. Everything will be checked out on
Friday before the banquet when The Original Us get together to rehearse.
Barbara inquired of Carolyn Howard about plans for the Saturday morning
'breakfast'. Walker and Linda Ryan will be serving a Chuckwagon breakfast.
Barbara has obtained permission for Walker to have a cooking fire. Carolyn
has made arrangements to offer juice and melons inside the Center for those who
prefer that. Carolyn will stay at the Center until 10:30. Someone
else will need to be on hand to welcome grads from 10:30-Noonish.
Angela Williams and Sheilah Underwood will take care of ticket sales and dues
collections at the door throughout the weekend. Loretta will provide them
with the necessary records. Don Johnson will donate a roll of tickets to use for
the event. He will get the tickets to Angela. Angela and Loretta
will go the bank on Friday to withdraw 'change' for the money pouch.
Barbara asked Connie Dillon about the meal arrangements. Connie reports
that Circle D will cater chicken-fried steak dinners for 225 people.
Loretta reported that there has been a flurry of last minute reservations which
makes us question whether or not our head count will be sufficient.
Everyone agreed it is a 'guessing game' as to how many will show up for the meal
without letting us know they are coming. It was decided to bump the number
of meals to 235 if it is not too late. There was additional discussion about the set-up
of tables at the school.
Loretta reported that Johnny Baker will give the invocation. Don Johnson
confirmed he will give the benediction. Barbara Gillum and
Don Johnson will emcee the event. Loretta will give a brief explanation of the association's new tax status at the short business meeting.
Furman Clark will give a brief report on the status of the scholarship program.
Officers will be elected.
Each graduating class will be asked to stand to be recognized.
Carolyn Howard thought there should be a printed program for the banquet.
She will take care of this.
Meeting adjourned.
Respectfully submitted by Loretta Corley, Secretary/Treasurer
