Young Team Plays
Pernell William’s fifth and sixth grade basketball teams are playing in the Zaneis Tournament this week.  The teams played Zaneis Monday night.  The girls lost a hard-fought contest 21-13 with Carol Breeze scoring 7 points, Jody Goss 4 and Holly Johnson 2.  The boys won 42-19 with Chad Williams scoring 18 points, Steven Weatherly 17, Bubba Rohrbough, Chris Kunkel and Bert Snow 2 each and Ronnie Stanley 1.
Cagers Sweep Games
Ryan cagers swept a doubleheader from Temple Tuesday night on the Ryan courts.   The Cowgirls never trailed as they posted a 66-58 victory.  Led by Sarah Cady’s 14 first quarter points, Ryan led 20-12 after one quarter. They led 35-28 at halftime.  Ryan stretched their lead to 10 points in the third period and led by 13, 64-51, with 3 ½ minutes left to the game.  Temple put on a rally at the end of the game but could get no closer than 8 points.  Shelly Cathey and Sarah Cady each scored 26 points, and Narce Hernandez had 14.  The Cowgirls are 1-2 on the season.  They lost their first game to Marietta 62-57.  Cathey scored 37, Cady 10, Hernandez 8 and Kandle Waitman 2.  They lost their second game to Walters 51-45.  Cathey had 18 points, Cady 16, Hernandez 9 and Michelle Harrison 2.

In the boys contest both teams got off to a slow start and the score was tied at 7 after one period.  Temple had their only lead of the game, 10-7, early in the second quarter as Johnson sank a 3-pointer.  Ryan then scored the next 15 points to take a commanding 22-10 lead with less than 2 minutes left in the first half.  Ryan lead 23-13 at the half.

The Cowboys built their lead to 35-19 with 4 minutes left in the third period.  Then Ryan’s shooting turned ice cold as they did not score a point in the next 5 minutes.  Temple closed the gap to 4 points, 35-31, early in the fourth period.  But Brian Major and Bobby Waitman hit a couple of layups and Chris Williams sank two free throws to stretch the lead back to 10.

Temple made one last rally and closed to 5 with 1:07 left, but Darron Williams hit two field goals and Chris Elerick sank two free throws to seal the victory.  Darron Williams led the scorers with 18 points.  Bobby Waitman had 15, Chris Williams 10, Chris Elerick 8, David Weatherly 4, Reggie Weatherly and Brian Major 2 each and Michael Cady 1.

The Cowboys lost their first game to Marietta 37-44.   Darron Williams scored 16, Reggie Weatherly 9, Waitman 6, Tommy Carter 4 and Martin Villarreal 2.   Walters defeated the Cowboys 61-58 in overtime.  David Weatherly had 19 points, Darron Williams and Reggie Weatherly 13 each, Cady 7, Waitman 4 and Chris Williams 2.
