NEWS
Fourth Grade - Those who have shown the most
interest this week in improving their writing are: Elizabeth Ann Perry,
Gertrude Hunter, Maple June Malone, and Nona Fay Davis. We are
very happy this week over the fact that 33 of the 35 boys and girls in
our room made perfect grades on the weekly spelling test Friday.
Sixth Grade - We are enjoying our morning exercises
very much. Different groups take turns conducting them. Last
week Jean and Virginia rendered a very unique number which was a vocal
solo “God Bless America” with xylophone accompaniment. In
Geography we have just finished our Kirghiz village. This was a
sand table project worked out in connection with our unit on Europe and
neighboring lands. In Art we are working on a unit in bookkeeping.
It is getting more and more interesting. We have been paying
particular attention to posture in our room throughout the day.
Sophomore News - We have just learned that the
world “sophomore” means “wise fool”. So far, we don’t know whether
to be flattered by the first or insulted by the last. However we
are wise enough and unfoolish enough to say ‘We are proud of our two
sponsors, Mrs. Williams and Miss Beavers.’ Our first class meeting
which was held last Friday gave us the following officers:
President, Utah Cates, Vice President, Edith Williams; secretary,
Marcella Davis and report, Betty Andy. Plans are being made for a
party Friday evening.
Senior News - The largest senior class in the
history of Ryan High started their last year of high school life with a
boom. Thirty-six members are in this class, the majority of whom
started together in the first grade. We elected the following
officers: Byron Beare, President, who was also our president last
year; James Bouldin, Vice President; Virginia Cates,
secretary/treasurer, and Jo Brown, Reporter. Our colors are pink
and orchid and our flower is the tulip. We plan to live up to our
motto, which is “Excelsior.”
