Listed as "Best Personality" and "All Around Senior Girl" my
big mouth was willed to Shirley Burnett! Guess I still love to
talk and visit with friends and still love to come to Ryan,
though none of my family is there now. But the Class of '51
remains strong and we usually get together several times a year.
I did all 12 years in the Ryan schools and owe a debt of
gratitude to the fine teachers we had there. That education won
a scholarship for me to both OSU and OU (the OU was never used)
and a music education degree with voice emphasis. I taught
public school music in Ft. Worth, Waco, Austin, Garland &
Richardson ISD's for 28 years and took 11 years to stay home
with our three children, Cliff, Lance and Janell. While in
Austin I obtained a Master of Music Education from UT-Austin so
I still have Orange blood all the way! And didn't we have an
exciting year!!!
I married my college sweetheart, Cole Reginal King "Reg" in
1953, so we've chalked up 52 years already and are going strong.
We've just returned from a 12 day cruise thru the Panama Canal
and points in Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Grand Caymans. It was
terrific!
I've been retired for seven years and Reg is a retired
Baptist minister, but in his second career teaches computer
science at Richland Community College and is "man Friday" for
our neighbors, The Scott Roofing Company.
It's been our privilege to tour a great deal of our wonderful
universe partly on mission trips to Indonesia, Singapore, Japan,
and Nigeria and pleasure trips thru China, Hong Kong, Hawaii,
Germany, France, Spain and England.
I'm active in women's Bible Study at our church, Park Cities
Baptist, and the Richardson Retired Teachers Association. (I
play piano dinner music for our monthly meetings during the
school year.) Also, Sigma Alpha Iota, a college/alumnae Music
Fraternity as a Dallas Alumnae Member consumes a great deal of
my time and has vastly enriched my music life with hundreds of
music friends. Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher's organization has also
meant much to me thru the years.
Our three children have given us 7 wonderful grandchildren,
among them are twin girls age 9, a grandson 8, grandson 13, a
University of Tennessee soccer scholarship player, 19, a
UT-Austin Music Major age 21, and one married grand daughter age
24 who graduated from University of Southwest Texas (San
Marcos).
Cliff lives with us in Dallas and is employed by Production
Riggings, Inc. as a technician. Lance and Becky (an Edmond
teacher) just recently moved from Austin to the new Dell plant
in Oklahoma City where he is in Corporate Sales. Janell is
married to an Aggie attorney, Joe Luce living in Houston, where
she teaches high School Spanish at 2nd Baptist Prep School and
has a landscape nursery company on the side. We both love
gardening!
The rest of my time is spent reading--I'm a mystery lover,
but read everything I can get my hands on!
Our best to all you Ryanites and God bless us all!
